Hello to everyone,

You may see the title of this post and think its a little odd, but continue reading and try to let me explain.  I decided to share this with everyone after I had a spiritual moment in my car driving to work.

A couple of days ago, listening to Sirius radio (Spirit Channel 66) a song from Casting Crowns called Slow Fade came on, and later I heard the song from TobyMac called Lose My Soul.  This wasn’t the first time that I had heard both of these songs, but I guess it was the first time I actually stopped and listened to all the lyrics.

Casting Crowns – Slow Fade — had three really important lyrics that jumped out at me during the drive.

The first lyric that made me start thinking was the “Be careful little…(eyes, feet, ears and lips)…because behind you will sure follow”.  Before I saw the video, I automatically assumed that Casting Crowns was signing to people that have influence over kids because kids are so easily influenced by adults.  However, then I considered that even youth and adults are influenced by other youth and adults that seem to have more power.

The second lyric is “when black and white turn into grey”.  Why are there so many gray areas in our life?  Do we NOT want to make someone feel bad about what they are doing even though we know it is wrong.  We fake ourself into believing that when someone doing something we know is wrong … but they haven’t had to pay any immediate consequences that we can see, so we think they got away with it and maybe its ok for us to do also.

The third lyric that made me think included part of the song title “People never crumble in a day, Its a slow fade”.  I took this as you don’t just go from being good and knowing right from wrong, to not listening to your heart and doing thing that are bad …. it takes time, not just a one day,

I love how the video plays event backwards, I’m sure we all have had a situation we would love a second chance or redo.  Actually we all have that second chance, by repenting and sharing our mistakes with others so they don’t see them as acceptable.

TobyMac- Lose my soul — had one main message for me in the song.

The main lyric “I don’t want to gain the whole world, and lose my soul” explains what happens as we enter into decision motivated by a wrong goal or a (grey area) skewed view of what is truly right and wrong.

I guess this really hit me because it made me think about a strong christian guy that was my project manager.  He would always go around the office saying just that “I don’t want to gain the whole world, and lose my soul”.  Without knowing at that time … Just by him saying this over and over aloud when we discussed daily topics in the news, it stuck with me and makes me think every time I am faced with a difficult decision, It’s not worth losing my soul.  I learned a lot from his actions without every being told what is right and wrong, just from being in that environment with his example of good and bad.

Final Thoughts

I think a lot of the time, the grey areas of right and wrong are created based on how big or small of a sin we think we are doing.  However, this should be the case.  We talking about this very thing in young adult bible study tonight and agreed that a sin is a sin, so there is never be a grey area based on the size of the sin in God’s eyes.  We can ask for forgiveness of our sins and try never to repeat them, but to make our self feel better because we think there is a grey area because we believe its ONLY a small sin is … UNACCEPTABLE, and hurts others around that see us as an example when faced with a similar decision.

I guess combining these two songs makes me more aware how our daily interactions are similar to the links in a chain, we learn from what is around us and if one link is weak then all the links around that one can be just as weak.  We could choose to see what links are weakest and disconnect ourself from them to join up with stronger links in the chain (such as at church with other believers), or we can try to help the weak links around us so that we can become stronger as a whole.  This happens when we aren’t worried about sharing our true feelings of whats right and wrong or outreaching and share the good message of God’s unconditional love and forgiveness.  You have to remember the chain is only as strong as its weakies link, and if we don’t outreach to others we will not become stronger as a whole.

I hope you enjoy the videos below or maybe took something from the song lyrics.  Anyways I love to hear your comments about my thoughts, so leave any comment to help improve this blog with topics you would like to discuss.

Casting Crowns – Slow Fade (Official Music Video & Lyrics)

Casting Crowns – Slow Fade (Lyrics)

Be careful little eyes what you see
It’s the second glance that ties your hands as darkness pulls the strings
Be careful little feet where you go
For it’s the little feet behind you that are sure to follow

It’s a slow fade when you give yourself away
It’s a slow fade when black and white have turned to gray
Thoughts invade, choices are made, a price will be paid
When you give yourself away
People never crumble in a day
It’s a slow fade, it’s a slow fade

Be careful little ears what you hear
When flattery leads to compromise, the end is always near
Be careful little lips what you say
For empty words and promises lead broken hearts astray

It’s a slow fade when you give yourself away
It’s a slow fade when black and white have turned to gray
Thoughts invade, choices are made, a price will be paid
When you give yourself away
People never crumble in a day

The journey from your mind to your hands
Is shorter than you’re thinking
Be careful if you think you stand
You just might be sinking

It’s a slow fade when you give yourself away
It’s a slow fade when black and white have turned to gray
Thoughts invade, choices are made, a price will be paid
When you give yourself away
People never crumble in a day
Daddies never crumble in a day
Families never crumble in a day

Oh be careful little eyes what see
Oh be careful little eyes what you see
For the Father up above is looking down in love
Oh be careful little eyes what you see

TobyMac- Lose my soul

TobyMac – Lose my soul – Lyrics found from http://www.lyricstime.com/tobymac-lose-my-soul-lyrics.html

Man I wanna tell ya’ll something, Man.
Man I’m not gonna let these material thing’s, get in my way, ya’ll.
I’m trying to get somewhere.
I’m trying to get somewhere,
Thats real and pure and true and eternal.

Father God, I am clay in your hands,
Help me to stay that way through all life’s demands,
‘Cause they chip and they nag and they pull at me,
And every little thing I make up my mind to be,
Like I’m gonna be a daddy whose in the mix,
And I’m gonna be a husband who stays legit,
And I pray that I’m an artist who rises above,
The road that is wide and filled with self love,
Everything that I see draws me,
Though it’s only in You that I can truly see that its a feast for the eyes- a low blow to purpose.
And I’m a little kid at a three ring circus.

I don’t want to gain the whole world, and lose my soul,
Don’t wanna walk away, let me hear the people say.
I don’t want to gain the whole world, and lose my soul,
Don’t wanna walk away, let me hear the people say.

(Mr. Franklin, Step up to the mic sir)

The paparazzi flashes, and that they think that it’s you,
But they don’t know that who you are is not what you do,
True, we get it twisted when we peak at the charts,
Yo before we part from the start,
Where’s your heart?
You a pimp, hustler?
Tell me what’s your title,
America has no more stars, now we call them idols,
You sit idle, While we teach prosperity,
The first thing to prosper should be inside of me.
We’re free…
Not because of 22’s on the range,
But Christ came in range, we said yes now we changed,
Not the same, even though I made a fall,
Since I got that call, no more Saul, now I’m Paul.
(YEP!)

I don’t want to gain the whole world, and lose my soul,
Don’t wanna walk away, let me hear the people say.
I don’t want to gain the whole world, and lose my soul,
Don’t wanna walk away, let me hear the people say.
Don’t wanna walk away,
Don’t wanna walk away

How do I sense the tide that’s rising?
De-sensitizing me from living in light of eternity,
How do I sense the tide that’s rising?
It’s hypnotizing me from living in light of eternity,
How do I sense the tide that’s rising?
De-sensitizing me from living in light of eternity.

(Lord what we gon do,We’re relying on you,
all eyes are on you Lord,
all eyes are on you, all eyes are on you Jesus.)

I don’t want to gain the whole world, and lose my soul,
Don’t wanna walk away, let me hear the people say.
(Don’t let me lose my soul, my soul.)
I don’t want to gain the whole world, and lose my soul,
(This is my honesty, Father, won’t you cover me.)
I don’t want to gain the whole world, and lose my soul,
(Don’t wanna walk away, and all those people say)
I don’t want to gain the whole world, and lose my soul,
(Don’t wanna lose, I don’t wanna lose my soul.)

Lord forgive us when we get consumed by the things of this world,
That fight for our love, and our passion,
As our eyes are open wide and on you.
Grant us the privilege of your world view,
And may your kingdom be, what wakes us up, and lays us down.

(Hallelujah, Don’t wanna lose our soul,
No, Don’t wanna lose my soul.)

Hey excuse me,
I’m looking or the after party,
Toby,
Haha, yeah, last door on the left, you’ll hear it.
Thanks,
No problem.

Don’t let me lose my soul, I never wanna walk away,
I don’t wanna lose my soul,
No, no, no.
Don’t let me, don’t let me, lose my soul,
I don’t wanna walk away,
Don’t let me walk away,
Na na na na no,
Don’t let me lose, my soul,
I’m never gonna walk away.
